MISS THANG breathed life back into the career-breaking smash single, 'Dont Take It Personal.' The album includes both that song and its remix, which combines the hit with Monicas interpretation of Jermaine Jacksons song of the same name. So while waiting on the vinyl to arrive on my door step, I figured what better way to resurrect TB Junkie than with one of my favorite artists. Debuting with MISS THANG, Monica seizes the ground that other R&-wanna-B singers have barely trod. Thinking back on that maybe that lead to me dancing later in life.
My fondest memory of Aaliyah’s Age Aint Nothin But A Number is making up a dance routine with my sisters to Back & Forth in my father’s friend’s daughter’s bedroom.

I think it was the swing, those gospel runs, the bravado, the Dallas Austin sound that I was familiar with from TLC’s debut album and all the other work that he was known for up to that time. I don’t believe I got on the Aaliyah bandwagon until the One in A Million era. And they did just in time when I woke up to find that I was the only bidder and owed a measly GBP39.99 for the nearly 20 year old vinyl. After a few moments of reviewing my dwindling bank account he proposed that I should bid on it anyway and the coins would come. A good online friend of mine inboxed me with a link to the eBay posting from a seller in the UK. After years of searching, countless nights of sweat and tears scrounging in person through stuffy and dusty crates (which I love doing by the way), the late Aaliyah‘s sophomore album One in A Million fell into my lap.
